pounds, 10 ounces can be in this study.

study team to find out if your baby qualifies.
What is this study about?
This is a study about finding different ways to collect and analyze small amounts of blood in
babies.
The scientists are trying to see if blood level immune system results are the same
when blood is collected by a traditional “heel stick” method compared to a new method using
“dried blood spots.
”
How long will my baby be in this study?
If your baby qualifies for this study, he/she will be in the study for about one hour or less over
a single visit.
What will I have to do if my baby is in this study?
You will need to decide that you agree for your baby to be in this study.
You and your baby
will visit MRN where the experienced study team will verify that your baby qualifies to be in
the study.
Your baby will be weighed and you will complete a short questionnaire about your
baby.
If your baby qualifies, two to three “heel sticks” will be done at separate times.
A small
sample from one heel will go into a tube while the sample from the other heel will be dabbed
on blood spot cards.
This way, the researchers can compare the blood values from each
method the samples are collected.
Who is in charge of this study?
Edward Barrett, PhD is the scientist who is in charge of this study.
He is working with an
experienced research team at MRN and Lovelace Biomedical.
If your baby qualifies and completes the study, you will be paid $200.
