*Position Purpose:*
A summer camp counselor is responsible for assisting the camp teacher manage classroom STEAM activities for participants enrolled in the “_Science is Everywhere”_ summer day camps at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History that caters to children Pre-K through 6th grade.
*Job Description:*
There are eight camp weeks (three different camps per week with varying student age ranges) for the 2024 summer camp season, starting on June 3, 2024.
These are for ages Pre-K through rising 6th grade.
The Camp Counselor will be responsible for assisting the camp’s teacher in an assigned group of multi-age campers each week of camp.
The part-time Camp Counselor needs to be available Monday-Friday, June 3 through July 26, to work approximately 25+ hours per week for the duration of the summer camp program.
*Responsibilities:*
* Participating in group activities with all the campers.
* Assisting the camp teacher with needs relevant to camp classroom management, including set-up for camp day and re-set for following day.
* Assist in ensuring campers’ safety during classroom and off-campus activities.
* Monitoring mealtime with campers as the teacher breaks for lunch.
* Oversees transitions to and from scheduled events.
* Participate fully in week-long camp classes.
Monday-Friday of chosen weeks.
* Assist camp teacher in managing class resources.
* Report all accidents/incidents to the camp teacher and Education leadership team.
* Help maintain a classroom climate which nurtures and supports an informal and fun learning environment.
* Ensure campers’ safety during classroom and off-campus activities.
* Assist in monitoring weekly off campus field trips.
* Attend program orientation meeting (May 18th) and one post camp meeting (TBD).

*Qualifications:*
The ideal candidate will be an excellent multi-tasker with a genuine passion for working with and empowering young people.
Applicants should be patient, fun-loving, and confident in their ability to motivate and assist campers in everything from learning new skills to developing positive adult and peer relationships.
This person should be able to work in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment with excellent communication skills.
Candidate must have experience working with children, especially ages Pre-K through 12, and must have 1-2 years of experience in childcare, teaching, or camp counseling.
Applicant must demonstrate skills in conflict mediation and have a flexible schedule daily and weekly.
