What Your Job Will Be Like
The Energy Storage Technology and Systems Department has a position open for a year-round intern interested in developing open-source cloud-based systems for data acquisition and visualization, and system modeling and control.
In particular, the candidate will develop open-source packages used to store time-series data acquired from Excel and comma-delimited files or from remote devices into databases (like InfluxDB and postgreSQL) and display the data in responsive web interfaces (like Redash and Grafana).
Experience with one or more of react, JSON APIs, angularJS, Node.
JS, and Python is required.
Experience with packages like Tensorflow, Pandas, Matplotlib, SQLAlchemy, and scikit-learn is highly desirable.
The student will be part of a multi-disciplinary group and interact with researchers working on power converters, cybersecurity, and battery degradation analysis.
The applicant is expected to generate deliverables, including software releases, and be given the opportunity to publish (e.
g.
, technical reports, conference publications, and journal publications).
We fully expect that the successful candidate will not have the entire range of desired experience and will help them acquire new expertise during the internship period.
The position may be remote.

About Our Team The Energy Storage Technology and Systems Department is focused on the development of advanced energy storage technologies and systems including the development of low cost battery technologies, safety and reliability of energy storage systems, power electronics and power conversion systems, computational and analytical tools for efficient utilization of energy storage in the electricity infrastructure.
In addition, the department manages several activities for the DOE OE Energy Storage program related to the deployment and demonstration of new energy storage projects, including the development of methods and tools to evaluate the performance of storage systems, and methods for the optimal utilization of energy storage assets.
The department works closely with a number of departments across Sandia in materials sciences, power sources, electrical sciences, fire science, power systems, renewables and grid integration.
We also have active collaborations with many stakeholders in the electricity industry including electric utilities, product developers, universities and other national laboratories to enable the development and rapid integration of energy storage technologies in the electricity infrastructure.
