Our Lula, the Catahoula, is having puppies! She is two years old, about 65 lbs.
She is a cross of Catahoula Leopard Dog (her mom) and a Rottweiler (her dad).
Looks just like mom.
Saw both parents, good looking dogs.
We got Lula and her brother, Tar.
He is solid black with Rottweiler confirmation (other than his hound nose) with no brown points.
He takes after his father and is a more traditional Rottweiler type, large, stocky and laid back but also willing to work.
Lula took after her mother, grey with spots.
She went darker as she matured and now has brown/grey/black spot markings.
Pups’ dad is a black/white spotted cattle dog/heeler.
He is about 45 lbs and she liked him…obviously.
Offspring should be about 55 lbs? Or if the Rottweiler comes out maybe larger? She doesn’t display Rottweiler traits, all Catahoula! So puppies could be a mix with anything possible as the dominant breed.
She is due first half of February and pups will be ready early April.
We are looking for an ACTIVE but safe lifestyle home for her pups.
The early notice is for your planning and our assurance these pups go to good homes where everyone is suited.
Please look up the Catahoula Leopard Dog, whose slogan is “Not for everyone”.
Catahoulas are the state dog of Louisiana, derived of a mix of Native American hunting wolves and Spanish and French hunting dogs.
She trains super easy and is very prey driven.
She keeps the vermin down, for certain.
Mice, voles, gophers, rabbits….
none around the house anymore! She is the smartest dog we’ve ever had and will do anything we’re smart enough to teach her! Lula is the Alpha dog around the whole neighborhood of our little village.
No one messes with her.
The size of the fight in the dog and all that.
She is a good watch dog as well, not aggressive but very loyal and protective.
These dogs need plenty of exercise and a job if you’ve got one, they would make good ranch/farm dogs.
Rehoming fee is $50 and a 50 lb bag of QUALITY adult dog food where the first ingredient is protein.
Pups will have first round of shots but will not be neutered or docked.
Ideal new “parents” will be folks that have acreage and are very active.
This is NOT a dog for a fenced yard in town.
Catahoulas can climb fences and trees.
They are working dogs that want to please.
If you’ve had an active dog, you know what I mean.
She would make excellent hunter.
Lula can track by air or ground scent, fun to watch her track! I expect her pups to be active and smart.
Thanks for looking.
We will post pictures of the puppies at about 4 weeks of age.
You’re welcome to email with any questions in the meanwhile.
