POSITION SUMMARY
Network Engineer will perform advanced, specialized work of a professional nature, to utilize skills requiring technical expertise and an understanding of complex analytical procedures, programming and systems processes while working with a significant amount of independent authority and judgment.
Incumbents may lead a project team or provide expertise in information systems analysis, to include definition of user requirements, feasibility studies, design, program specifications, testing, and implementation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a variety of highly complex analytical duties in the planning, development, installation, implementation, integration, testing and evaluation of the computer network systems, telecommunication hardware and software, and local area networks.
Ensures the availability of networking services; coordinate with clients to determine network systems requirements; study the integrity and security of data to establish system configuration; monitor systems to control and support network traffic; devise and implement strategies for connection of independent networks.
Actively engage and participate in the evaluation of network protocols, hardware and software to determine their applicability to County network needs; assist in the selection process; coordinate the installation and maintenance of computers, circuits and data communications equipment; configure routers, switches and other devices.
Oversees the integrity and security of County networks and all related components, including the human element, physical and virtual servers, domain controllers, desktops, laptops, printers and other devices which utilize the County network; scans and monitors network activity, troubleshoots and resolves network performance issues.
Serves as the project lead over moderate/large network analysis projects; develops and monitors project budgets and resources; interfaces with management to define project scope and review project activities, recommendations and outcomes; coordinates the use of project resources based on project requirements; designs and implements testing and quality assurance processes.
Provides recommendations for improving hardware and/or software in order to accomplish business goals; recommends and/or implements operating system adjustments to maximize application performance and resource resolution.
Serves as a technical expert within area of assignment, providing guidance and direction to other professional staff and resolving complex network problems; participates in developing strategic plans.
May lead the work of subordinate professional information technology staff within an assigned work unit; directs the work of peers and/or subordinate professional information technology staffed on assigned projects as needed.
Prepares reports, correspondence and other documents; participates on committees and task forces; attends meetings, conferences and training sessions.
Performs other job related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Networking, Computer Science, or related field, and eight (8) years of work experience as a network engineer managing a wireless network.
Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:
Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver’s license while employed in this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment, but occasionally requires travel to other locations.
Work environments may include noise, dust and/or unpleasant odors, and may occasionally require work in confined spaces.
Occasional evening, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
