Why does the job exist? This position is responsible for the daily maintenance, grounds keeping and operation of assigned armories and supporting facilities of the Department of Military Affairs and the NM National Guard (NMARNG).
How does it get done? Employees in this role perform complex maintenance tasks related to carpentry; electrical repair; welding; boiler operation, painting, masonry, sandblasting; glass, fencing, and concrete installation; landscaping; and grounds keeping.
Duties include but are not limited to constructing, assembling and repairing wooden structures; repairing/ remodeling offices and buildings by repairing roofs, replacing floors, stairs, and doors; and inspecting buildings to assure building codes are met.
Employees may repair and maintain complex air pressure systems; may operate heavy equipment to perform various tasks; and may perform extensive budgetary, procurement, and inventory duties.
Duties may also involve pipe fitting; boiler making; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs.
Clears snow and debris from walkways.
Who are the customers? DMA state employees, military and civilian employees of the New Mexico National Guard.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for this position has experience in: General buildings and grounds maintenance; Custodial duties; Construction; Plumbing; and Electrical or appliance repair.
Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction or appliance repair.
Substitution Table These combinations of education and experience qualify you for the position: Education Experience 1 High School Diploma or Equivalent AND # of months or years of experience specified in the minimum qualification 2 Associate's Degree AND Zero years of experience • Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position.
• If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.

6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications.
No substitutions apply for semester hours.
Employment Requirements Employment is subject to background check and is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License with no limitations or restrictions.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor setting and requires the use of various hand and power tools, as well as operating vehicles and small landscaping equipment.
One may be required to work in adverse weather conditions, extreme cold or heat for extended periods of time.
Bending, standing, and lifting up to 75 pounds Is required.
Some travel will be required.
